Richard Harris III
NCCER Master Trainer & Administrator, Craft Trades Instructor, DOL Electrical / HVAC/R Journeyperson, OSHA 500 Trainer, Construction Site Safety Master (CSSM).
My apprenticeship journey:
“My earliest introduction to apprenticeship began at seven, with my dad as my first instructor. He taught me how to splice and hang our X-mas tree lights around the home. Of course, this led to my fascination with electricity. It wasn’t long after I began investigating the electrical work of many other things, including taking apart my Lionel train track transformer the following week.
In 1975, I enrolled in my first official vocational training at Newark Manpower Training Skills Center for adults in Newark, NJ. I completed course training for HVAC-R, which included the laws of electricity, wiring diagrams, blueprint reading, troubleshooting, and electrical circuits. This decision would ultimately lead to working for the next 20 years alongside some of New Jersey’s top electrical contractors.
In 1996, I returned to continue my education at Essex County Vocational / Technical Schools Division for Adults in Newark, NJ. There I received my United States Department of Labor Diploma as a Certified Electrical Journeyman and a Certified EPA Universal Technician for refrigerant recovery.
Throughout my years, I have subscribed to the importance of learning while earning. This belief is why I have continued my education through Continuing Education Units at Night school, Lehigh Carbon Community College, where I received an Associates in Applied Science in HVAC/R, graduating Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa. In addition, in 2017, my professional affiliation with the National Center for Construction Education and Research led to my training to become a Craft Instructor, Master Trainer/Admin, and an Accredited Training Sponsor, certifying me to train crafts personnel and students."
"Being an instructor requires remaining a student!"
"From X-mas tree lights & Lionel train transformers to Master Trainer."
"Apprenticeship works!”
My favorite quote: "Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today."
